Auteur, explorateur, botaniste, photographe et administrateur colonial britannique, Sir Everard Ferdinand im Thurn (1852 - 1932) était gouverneur de Fiji entre 1904 et 1910. "This charming work resulted from Stuart-Wortley's visit to Tahiti in 1880 and from the photographs taken by him on that occasion. However, as he writes in his Preface, the book would never have come to fruition had not Lady Brassey agreed to write the letterpress.
